2023 Season Information

2023 SEASON INFORMATION

The GELC 2023 Lacrosse League play is set to begin the week of April 17th, 2023.  Playing days are TBD based on facility availability as well as our Officials.  More information on playing days will be posted in March 2023.

Information regarding A Level Tryouts for U13, U15, and U17 can be found on the Website under the 'West Zone A Teams' tab. Tryouts are scheduled for the week of March 6, 2023.  Please read the 'A' team information carefully.

2023 Provincials Format

In years past, the year end Provincial Tournament was hosted for U11 to U17 Divisions and was most often played in Calgary the second week of July. Any U11 to U17 team in the province was allowed to declare their intention to play in Provincials and was allowed to participate.

Beginning this season, that format will change significantly.  At the end of playoffs in each LGB (GELC for us) the top team will be obligated to attend provincials and compete for provincial championships.  Any team not winning the local playoffs in their respective LGB will not have the option of attending.

In addition, the location the Provincial Tournament will rotate on a three year basis between Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary.  This year the tournament will be hosted in Edmonton.

Each team attending Provincials will be required to pay an additional fee of $750 to $1000.  Although not confirmed at his point, the GELC is looking at subsidizing at least part of that fee for teams representing the GELC.

The U17 'A' team competing in the WRLL will have their playoffs alongside the Provincials Tournament and will be a best of three series rather than single knockout.

Please take this into consideration when planning the early part of your summer.  If your team finishes as the top team of the GELC finals, they will be mandated to attend and compete in the Provincial Tournament in Edmonton. This will take teams into the second week of July.
